The My School website provides parents with information about every Australian school. As a parent, you can access information about your child’s school, as well as about schools local to you and across Australia.
Every Australian school has its own landing page on the website. On a school’s page, you can find:
You will also find information on vocational education and training (VET) in schools (where relevant), the number of senior students who completed Year 12 and/or who were awarded a senior certificate of education, as well as students' post-school destinations (where this information is available).
A short description of the school provided by the school’s principal is also included in the introduction section.
My School shows up to 20 schools located within 80 kilometres of the school you have selected, with links to those schools’ profile pages. The My School website will not automatically show you the comparison of these schools’ NAPLAN results – this is because My School only lets you compare ‘similar schools’, for reasons of fair comparison.
My School lets you make fair comparisons of schools. For example, a school in a wealthy suburb of a capital city has different characteristics than a school in a remote location in regional Australia.
That is why we have developed a scale to let you compare similar schools fairly. The scale is called ICSEA.
The My School website lets you view schools that are close to the school you have searched for. The nearest 20 schools within 80 kilometres of a selected school will be listed. You can then filter these by school type and sector. Of course, in more remote areas, there will be fewer schools.
From there, you can visit each school’s page on My School.
There is much more to a school than just its NAPLAN results, but these results do help us see how a school is doing in the important areas of literacy and numeracy.
NAPLAN results of a selected school can be compared with the average results of a group of schools with similar students and with the average results of all Australian schools.
